Can EBOO Help with Lyme Disease? Here's What You Need to Know

By The Replenish IV Wellness Team  |

If you've been dealing with Lyme disease — especially the kind that just doesn't seem to go away — you already know how exhausting it can be. The fatigue, the joint pain, the brain fog, the nights you can't sleep... it wears on you. And if you've already tried antibiotics but still don't feel like yourself, you're not alone.

That's exactly why we want to talk about EBOO therapy — a treatment that's been getting a lot of attention in the world of functional and integrative medicine for people dealing with chronic Lyme disease. Let's break it down in plain, simple terms.

First, Let's Talk About Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is spread through the bite of an infected tick. The bacteria it carries — called Borrelia burgdorferi — can get into your bloodstream and cause a range of symptoms. In the early stages, you might notice a bullseye-shaped rash, fever, tiredness, and muscle aches. If it's caught early, antibiotics usually work well (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2022).

But here's the problem: for many people, the symptoms don't fully go away even after finishing antibiotics. This is called Post-Treatment Lyme Disease (PTLD), and researchers at Johns Hopkins estimate that about 14% of Lyme patients experience it — that's roughly 2 million Americans still suffering months or even years after treatment (Johns Hopkins Medicine Lyme Disease Research Center, 2024).

Why does this happen? A big reason is that Lyme bacteria are sneaky. They can hide inside protective "shields" called biofilms — basically a sticky coating that makes it hard for antibiotics to reach them. They also leave behind toxins that keep the immune system fired up long after the infection itself is gone.

Think of it like this: antibiotics can win the battle, but the aftermath — the inflammation, the toxins, the immune confusion — can keep making you feel awful.

So, What Exactly Is EBOO?

EBOO stands for Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation. It sounds complicated, but the idea is actually pretty straightforward. In a nutshell: your blood is gently removed, cleaned up, infused with ozone (a special form of oxygen), and then put back into your body — refreshed and ready to work better.

It's a bit like running your blood through a filter. Toxins, debris, and harmful particles get removed during the process, while the ozone gives your immune system a powerful boost. One EBOO session can treat nearly half of your total blood volume, which is much more than older ozone treatments (Meeting Point Health, 2025).

Here's how a typical session works, step by step:

  • Step 1 — Your blood is drawn out slowly through an IV line.

  • Step 2 — It passes through a filter that traps harmful waste and inflammatory proteins.

  • Step 3 — Medical-grade ozone is mixed into the blood.

  • Step 4 — The clean, ozone-enriched blood is returned to your body.

Sessions usually take about 60 to 90 minutes. Most people find it relaxing — similar to sitting in a recliner while getting an IV. There's no surgery, no recovery time, and no major side effects for most patients.

How Does EBOO Help With Lyme Disease?

EBOO doesn't just tackle one piece of the Lyme puzzle — it works on several fronts at once. Here's what it actually does in your body:

1. It Goes After the Bacteria

Ozone is a powerful germ-fighter. When it enters the bloodstream, it can damage and kill harmful bacteria — including Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria that causes Lyme. Research shows that ozone disrupts the outer shell of bacteria, making them easier for your immune system to destroy (Atlanta Medicine, 2024; LifeWell MD, 2024).

It can even help break through those protective biofilms we mentioned — the "shields" that keep bacteria hiding from antibiotics. On top of that, ozone may also help with common Lyme co-infections like Babesia and Bartonella, which often make recovery even harder (Global Lyme Alliance, n.d.).

2. It Helps Reset Your Immune System

One of the trickiest parts of chronic Lyme is that your immune system gets out of balance. Sometimes it's working overtime, causing too much inflammation. Other times, it's worn down and struggling to protect you. EBOO helps bring things back into balance — calming an overactive immune response and waking up a sluggish one (Holistic Wellness Center of the Carolinas, 2024).

3. It Cleans Out the Toxins

When Lyme bacteria die — whether from antibiotics or your immune system — they release toxins into your blood. This can actually make you feel worse for a short time, a reaction sometimes called "Herxing." The physical filtration step in EBOO helps remove these toxins from your blood before they can cause as much trouble, which can make the healing process much more comfortable (Revived Personalized Wellness, 2026; Meeting Point Health, 2025).

4. It Boosts Your Energy at the Cell Level

Lyme bacteria love low-oxygen environments. By flooding your blood with oxygen and ozone, EBOO makes your body a less welcoming place for the bacteria — while giving your own cells the oxygen they need to produce energy. This is a big reason why many patients notice a real improvement in their energy levels after just a few sessions (The Longevity Center FL, 2025).

5. It Strengthens Your Body's Natural Defense System

Ozone also triggers your body to produce more of its own protective antioxidants — the substances your cells use to repair damage and fight inflammation. Think of it as switching on your body's internal cleanup crew (IV Elements, 2025).

What Can You Actually Expect?

People who have gone through EBOO for chronic Lyme often report:

  • More energy — and less of that bone-deep exhaustion

  • Less joint pain and fewer body aches

  • Clearer thinking and less brain fog

  • Reduced tingling, twitching, or nerve-related symptoms

  • Better sleep

  • A calmer, more stable mood

  • Fewer and milder "Herx" reactions

"The biggest things I've noticed are increased energy, less neurological symptoms like twitching, and much better sleep." — B.W., Lyme Disease & Mold Toxicity Patient (Kinnection Clinic, 2026)

One documented case followed a chronic Lyme patient through five EBOO sessions. By the third session, headaches that had been happening every single day had stopped — and the patient was exercising again for the first time in two years. Lab results after the fifth session showed a 60% drop in inflammation markers (Revived Personalized Wellness, 2026).

EBOO Works Best as Part of a Bigger Plan

We want to be upfront with you: EBOO is not a magic cure, and it's not meant to replace antibiotics. For a new Lyme infection, antibiotics are still the right first step. But for people dealing with ongoing symptoms, EBOO can be a powerful addition to a bigger wellness plan.

At Replenish IV, we often pair EBOO with other IV therapies that support your body during recovery, such as:

  • Vitamin C IV — to support your immune system and help fight inflammation

  • Glutathione IV — your body's master antioxidant, great for detox support

  • Myers' Cocktail — a blend of vitamins and minerals to replenish what Lyme has depleted

  • NAD+ IV — to restore energy at the cellular level

Most people with chronic Lyme benefit from a series of 5 to 10 EBOO sessions. We space them out based on how your body is responding and what your labs show (Revived Personalized Wellness, 2026; Vitalis Health, 2024).

Is EBOO a Good Fit for You?

EBOO may be worth exploring if you:

  • Have been treated for Lyme but still feel unwell

  • Are dealing with ongoing fatigue, joint pain, or brain fog

  • Have Lyme along with other infections like Babesia or Bartonella

  • Struggle with mold illness on top of Lyme

  • Have been told you have chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia

  • Are looking for ways to support your immune system naturally

The best place to start is a one-on-one conversation with our team. We'll look at your full health history, your current symptoms, and any recent lab work to figure out whether EBOO makes sense for you — and what a personalized plan would look like.
